Inspiration

This year's event theme is "Serengeti Sunset." Although a black tie & formal gown are always appropriate for the Turquoise Ball, if you prefer dress to theme we’ll be posting a few ideas soon.

Frequently Asked Questions (or just fun to answer)

What should I wear?
The Turquoise Ball dress code is black tie and formal gown. However you are welcome to dress to each year’s theme. For “Serengeti Sunset” think of animal print and amazing sunset colors. We’ll have more inspirational photos for you soon.

How and when did the Turquoise Ball begin?
The first Turquoise Ball was held in 1961, organized by the Hospital Auxiliary as a fundraiser for the Flagstaff Community Hospital. In its first year the event raised $2,200. The gala receives its name from the turquoise uniforms that the Auxiliary and Candy Stripers would wear.

Who is this year’s Turquoise Ball beneficiary?
Still to be determined

I can’t attend but want to support. How can I donate?
We’re sad that you can’t make it to the event, but appreciate the support. Click HERE to support the efforts to train the community in Mental Health First Aid.

I’d like to volunteer. Who should I contact to schedule time?
Wow - you’re amazing. Please email Megan Roach to schedule a shift.
megan.roach@nahealth.com

What percentage of revenues go toward the beneficiary?
The Foundation’s mission is to support community healthcare and we strive to do that as effectively as possible. 85% of event revenues go directly to the beneficiary of each of our fundraising events.

How much of my donation is tax deductible?
As with any donation, please work with your tax adviser for guidance on this. For each individual ticket, $75 is tax deductible. For tables of eight, the fair market value of goods and services in connection with the sponsorship is $700.
Generally any live auction or box office items are “bought” at a reduced rate, so purchase is not tax deductible.
Funds donated during the paddle raise are fully deductible.

What is included in the price of a ticket?
A lot! The evening begins with a champagne reception and passed hors d’oeuvres. While enjoying these you can get a professional photo taken by Sean Openshaw Photography which will be mailed to you after the event (also free).
A surf & turf dinner and theme dessert can be enjoyed while listening to live entertainment by Uptown Big Band. Each sponsored table includes a complimentary bottle of white and red wine.
Don’t forget to take your wine and champagne glass with you - we won’t stop you at the door.

Really, I just wanted to know if cocktails are included….
There is complimentary champagne as you arrive and two bottles of wine at each sponsored table. If you prefer a different libation or you’re really just a beer person, cash bars are located throughout the event.

I have dietary restrictions - what is the meal?
We want your stomach to be as happy and full as your heart by the end of the evening, so please let us know if you have any dietary restrictions prior to the event. There is a meat and fish option, as well as a vegetarian dish. We’ll do our best to note gluten free options on the menu.

I can’t live without the centerpiece. Can I have it?
In order to keep the cost of events down, we reuse quite a bit of our decorations and appreciate it if these don’t walk out. However, a lot of time went into them and we know why you want it. So if one ends up in your satchel, please make a donation on your way out the door.

How do you decide on a theme each year?
Luck - do you have any ideas?
Actually there is a Turquoise Ball Advisory Committee that helps with event decisions. We bounce ideas off of them each year.

What is a Box Office?
The box office is a fundraiser where more than 100 boxes are sold for $100 apiece. Each box contains a prize ranging in value from $80 to $5,000. There is more than a 70% chance of you receiving a prize higher than $100 in value. However no-one knows what is in each box - GOOD LUCK.

What are the Live Auction items this year?
We’ll let you know as soon as we know…….
